John Mair

was born in North Yorkshire England and after serving a 5 year diversified apprenticeship in Middlesborough, immigrated to the east coast of the United States. In 1976 he made his way west and has resided in Sausalito since then, creating extraordinary beautiful pieces of furniture. His workshop is located on the waterfront of Sausalito and although modest in size, impresses because of the abundance of teak and other exotic, rare and costly wood within its confines

John describes himself as "an ordinary English bloke" who loves his craft but there is certainly nothing ordinary about his work. Sausalito Woodworks is well known throughout the Marin county area as the place to order extraordinarily fine customized furniture. He has contributed his artistry throughout many notable projects including the centerpiece gigantic ceiling lamps at Gumps department store in San Francisco, and his contribution to the prestigious Marin Designer showcase: a beautiful Roble bar.
